What to expect
A mother’s blessing ceremony brings close friends and family of the mother together in circle to honour her, her upcoming birth and her motherhood transition. It is a ceremonial alternative to a baby shower or can be integrated into a baby shower. Mother’s blessings are tailored to your preferences. They often include:

Breathwork

Simple and grounding breathing techniques to regulate and connect the group. A focus on connecting with the heart space and feminine nature to prepare for sharing love and support with the mother.

Women’s circle

Seated sharing circle where each woman is invited to share their own or borrowed words that focus on the positives and strength of birth and motherhood, and how much they love and admire the mother.

The circle may also include a red thread ritual where a ball of red thread is passed around the circle and wrapped around each woman’s wrist as she shares her words. The completed circle connects the mother’s chosen village and surrounds her with love, support and wisdom. Once the circle is complete, the thread is cut and tied into individual bracelets. The group is encouraged to wear their thread to keep the mother in their thoughts until she gives birth.

An alternative or additional ritual is for each woman to provide the mother with a small token like a bead that can be used to create a birthing bracelet and remind the mother of the feminine strength surrounding her.

Yoga with gentle massage

Incorporating slow flow yoga, or floor based restorative yoga, into a Mother’s blessing ceremony is a beautiful way of nurturing and pampering the mother and her chosen village. Gentle massage can also be provided.

Nourishing the mother

Guests are invited to bring a plate to share to begin the practice of nourishing the mother. With the chosen village together, it is also a great opportunity to set up a meal train to support the mother through her postpartum.
